A true Texan legend, James Robert Peters of Houston, Texas. On september 15, 2023, we said our final farewells to a man whose spirit was as big as the Lone Star State itself. Born and raised in the heart of Houston, James was a Texan through and through. His boots walked the trails, his hat shaded him from the scorching sun, and his heart was as vast as the Texas sky. He was a man who understood the land, having farming in his veins since the day he was born.
James, fondly known as "Cowboy Jim" to his friends, was a master of the saddle and a lover of horses. He could tame the wildest bronco and make it dance like a summer breeze. There was nothing quite like seeing him atop a stallion, riding off into the Texan sunset. But it wasn't just horses that made Jim's heart beat faster; it was his chili, a recipe handed down through generations. He could cook up a pot of chili that could warm your soul on the coldest of days. No one could ever recreate that special touch that made it uniquely his.
In the realm of trucks, Jim was a connoisseur of the classics. Those old trucks had more character than a Texan tall tale, and Jim knew how to keep them running like clockwork. In a final act of generosity, he bequeathed his beloved trucks to charity, ensuring that his legacy of giving would live on. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, and their two children, George and Sarah. The love he held for his family was as wide as the Texas horizon, and they carry the weight of his legacy with pride. The biggest pride was his grandchildren, Emma Lou and Jimmy Jack.
As we mosey down the dusty trail of life without him, let us remember Cowboy Jim for his unwavering spirit, his love for the land, and the countless lives he touched. He rode off into the sunset one last time, but his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Cowboy Jim. Your boots may be still, but your spirit will forever ride the open range of our memories.
